Dear Fellow Members of the Brigade of Gurkhas, We did it – your team, the Gurkha Bhuros, completed Trailwalker in excellent time, finishing at 0931 hrs on Sunday 28 July 2013. We are rather battered, weary and sore, but we are also very proud of what we have achieved, for it is an extremely hard 100kms over very difficult ground. We were helped by a brilliant Support Team drawn from GWC, and by a great young soldier, LCpl Lilaram Rai QGE, a last minute replacement, who was a tremendous credit to his Regiment and our Brigade. Our thanks to those of you who have helped us (or rather, GWT) with donations and with messages of support. And there is still time to send in donations – see […]
Our Gurkha Bhuros’ team have suffered a set-back – one of the team has had to withdraw, after several months hard training, with injuries. Thankfully QGE have been able to find the ideal replacement! The team are due to take on the Trailwalker challenge – for GWT, our charity – in less than 3 days. Thanks to the generosity of many of you, the Gurkha Bhuros have now raised over £2000, but they need your continued support to reach their fundraising target. For an update, see www.justgiving.com/gurkhabhuros13 . And please circulate this to at least five of your friends!

BACKGROUND TO EQUITABLE LIFE PAYMENT SCHEME (ELPS) In March 1992, a Saving Scheme for serving Gurkhas was set up for members to invest into the fund with the view to receive a cash investment on capital growth at the time of retirement. The scheme was managed by the Equitable Life Assurance Society. Over the last 21 years, the vast bulk of members have cashed in their schemes, however there are a number of serving and retired Gurkha servicemen who are eligible for further claims. During September 2010, the government debated in the House of Commons, that various savings and insurance schemes through the Equitable Life Assurance during the 1990s, suffered financial losses as a result of maladministration that was found to have occurred in the […]
