MP for Richmond (York) visited the Gurkha Temple at Infantry Training Center Catterick

Mr Rishi Sunak, a Member of the Parliament (House of Commons) from the Richmond (York) constituency visited the Gurkha temple at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick on Sunday 22nd July 2018. He arrived at the Gurkha temple at 0800hrs accompanied by his wife and the Mayor of Richmondshire District Council, Mr Stuart Parsons. 

He was welcomed at the Gurkha Temple by Gurkha Pandit Mr Atmaram Dahal, Officer Commanding Gurkha Company Major Prem Gurung MBE and Commanding Officer 2 Infantry Training Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Simon Davies.

He attended a special ritual service in the Gurkha temple along with the Recruit Intake of 2018. Mr and Mrs Sunak ritually worshiped the Gods and Goddesses of Hinduism.

After the temple service, everyone walked down to the Gurkha Kitchen for breakfast. Whilst on the walk the Officer Commanding Gurkha Company provided an update of the ongoing Gurkha training. During the breakfast Mr Rishi Sunak held informal discussions with the trainees and staff.

After breakfast Mr Rishi Sunak was given an opportunity to observe the trainees accommodation and he was amazed to see the very good standards set by the trainees. He was also impressed to see the various historical items displayed at various locations within the Bhanubhakta building.
