A virtual lecture on military paintings from the Bayeux Tapestry to Terrance Cuneo – 24 January

12th January 2023
Gurkha Museum Listen at home series

Next to religion and portraiture probably more artistic effort has been expended on warfare – battles, campaigns, commanders – than on any other subject.  Were these depictions intended as a historical record? As inspiration? As motivation? As propaganda? Or as just something to hang on your wall?  This talk looks at military art from the Bayeux Tapestry to the Second World War and asks: what does it all mean?

The lecture, originally presented and filmed at the Museum in November 2022 will be delivered by Major Gordon Corrigan MBE. It will be streamed on the Gurkha Museum website (link below) or can be seen via the museum’s YouTube Channel.
