While deployed on Exercise DEFENDER 21 in Slovenia, King Troop, 247 Gurkha Signal Squadron, received an invitation from the British Embassy.
The invitation was an opportunity to meet Mrs Tiffany Sadler, The British Ambassador to Slovenia, and deliver a presentation about the Brigade of Gurkhas to the guests of the Ambassador. It was a great occasion that allowed us to introduce the Brigade of Gurkhas and share over 200 years of about our rich history.
On arrival at her residence in Slovenia we were personally greeted by Mrs Tiffany Sadler, the British Ambassador to Slovenia. The guests included staff from the British Embassy, who were curious to know more about “The Gurkhas”. After the meet and greet, Lieutenant Alex Richards, and Sergeant Shankar Gurung delivered a presentation on the history of the Brigade of Gurkhas and the formation of the Queen’s Gurkha Signals. This was followed by a presentation on the Gurkha Selection Process by Lance Corporal Santosh Rai and the culture of Nepal by Lance Corporal Suraj Ale. The presentations sparked many questions demonstrating the interest from the audience who were keen to learn more. It was a great experience to be able to share and promote the culture and ethos of the Paltan, our experiences and our history on an international platform, which was thoroughly appreciated by the Ambassador and her guests.
