Art Competition 2020 – The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles

Sergeant Ganesh Rana and Corporal Surya Jirel of The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) organised an art competition during lockdown.

The aims of the competition were to:

  • develop the creativity and imagination of Service Personnel (SP) and their families.
  • motivate young artists and help them to develop their skills.
  • support the mental health of SPs and their families during the COVID-19 lockdown.
  • raise money in support of The RGR Trust.

The competition was open to all members of 1 RGR, 3 RGR, The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, attached personnel and their families and closed on 24th June 2020.

The competition was judged by a panel of judges from Battalion Headquarters and a selection of artwork was auctioned off to raise money for The RGR Trust, which benefits serving soldiers and provides financial assistance for Gurkha casualties, or the families of those killed or wounded.
