The event encompassed the attestation of Recruit Intake 22, the commissioning ceremony of Late Entry Officers (Captain Raj Gurung and Captain Subash Tembe) and the ceremony of the Gurkha Major’s appointment (Captain Deny Gurung). The event was attended by over 900 personnel and high-ranking personalities including Major General I Copeland CB, Major General A S J Fay CB, Colonel D Robinson (Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas) and Colonel PA Allen ADC (Colonel Royal Logistic Corps). The parade was reviewed by Brigadier PS Reehal MBE, the Colonel QOGLR, and musical support was provided by the Waterloo Band of 7 Rifles and the QOGLR Pipes and Drums.

During the parade, the following personnel were presented the regimental awards in order to recognise their outstanding contribution and selfless commitments towards the Regiment’s goal.

  • QOGLR Gold Medal – Mr Carl Lewis – Gorton
  • The Wallace Dutton Trophy (The best Private soldier of the year) – Private Taraman Rai – 14 Squadron, QOGLR
  • The Gurkha Soldier of the Great War (The best Junior Non-Commissioned Officer of the year) – Corporal Lokraj Limbu – 28 Squadron, QOGLR
  • The Slim Trophy (The best Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the year) – Staff Sergeant Niraj Gurung – 36 Squadron, QOGLR

Following the parade a superb curry was served by the first-class QOGLR Chefs. The key highlights of this phase was the cake-cutting ceremony, tug of war competition, martial arts display and the fascinating musical display by the QOGLR Pipes and Drums.

The event was organised under the leadership of Captain Prakash Gurung, Second in Command of 28 Squadron QOGLR.
