Members of C (TAMANDU) Company, The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles recently deployed on Exercise TAMANDU WARRIOR in the Cinque Ports training area in Kent, UK.
It was the Company’s first exercise since returning to the UK from Brunei after an extended assignment and tested the soldiers basic fieldcraft skills at section and platoon level. Basic fieldcraft skills for soldiers is crucial to enable them to operate effectively in all conditions and locations and concentrate on the task and operation at any given time. The Second Battalion have spent an extended period of time in Brunei and a return to the UK means adapting to a different environment and a new role for the Battalion as part of 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team.
16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team are specially trained and equipped to deploy by parachute, helicopter and air-landing. Its core role is to maintain the Air Assault Task Force, a battlegroup held at high readiness to deploy worldwide for a full spectrum of missions, from non-combatant evacuation ops to warfighting.
