The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives and Blandford Camp Gurkha Community (BCGC) in no different.
However, to achieve excellence in what we do, we must adapt to the changes and act accordingly. BCGC celebrated this year’s Tihar virtually over online video application on Saturday 14th November 2020.
More than 50 Nepalese families from across the Garrison which included members from 11 Signal Regiment, Blandford Garrison Support Unit and 13 Signal Regiment joined together virtually and celebrated the festival of lights with joy. Blandford Camp Gurkha Focus/ Commanding Officer 11 (Royal School of Signals) Signal Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Jacques-Grey passed her Tihar greetings to the Nepalese community after an update from Senior Gurkha Captain (SGC), Captain Sanjeev Rai. The update from SGC included, recent achievements from BCGC Members, Regiment Headquarters Queen’s Gurkha Signals update and few dairy checks. The main highlight of the evening were Bingo and Money Tree organised by Sergeant Sagar Sherchan. The event lasted for about an hour and finally concluded with informal chit chat across the members.
Finally, the community would like to express our sincere gratitude to the sponsors for the evening. Peepal Mortgages sponsored the first prize for the evening worth £100.00 whilst Namaste Gurkha Restaurant, Blandford supported the event by donating a Tihar gift hamper. Squadron Sergeant Major (Gurkha), Warrant Officer Class 2 Bishnu congratulated all the winners on behalf of the community and formally closed the virtual event.
