Brigade of Gurkhas Annual Golf Championship 2018

The Brigade of Gurkhas Annual Golf Championship was held on Thursday 28th June 2018 at Weybrook Park Golf Course in Basingstoke.

The championship was to find the unit champion of the year as well as to measure the standard of the emerging sport of Golf within the Brigade of Gurkhas.

Unlike previous years the format of the competition was different and played in Zero handicap.

Altogether 12 teams from across the Brigade took part in the competition. The weather was fantastic and the course was in an immaculate condition with a feel of woodland as well as link course. 

Further to this, the course was set up in the championship format. The competition started at around 0900hrs.


Overall Unit Champion:

  • Champion of the Year 2018 – 1 Royal Gurkha Rifles
  • Runners up – Queen’s Gurkha Signals

Individual Top 5 of the Brigade of Gurkhas:

  • 1st –Sergeant Santosh Gurung -2 Royal Gurkha Rifles
  • 2nd – Captain Giri Prasad Gurung –Gurkha Wing (Mandalay)
  • 3rd – Cpl Lekh Bahadur Pun -1 Royal Gurkha Rifles
  • 4th – Warrant Officer Class Two Kumar Pun -1 Royal Gurkha Rifles
  • 5th – Staff Sergeant Saroj Rai – Queen’s Gurkha Signals

Novelty Prizes:

  • Nearest to the Pin Front Nine – Corporal Tul Jung Gurung MC –Gurkha Wing (Mandalay)
  • Nearest to the Pin Back Nine – Corporal Tanka Magar -2 Royal Gurkha Rifles 
  • Longest drive- Warrant Officer Class Two Sanjeev Rai –Queen’s Gurkha Signals
