On the 13th August the President Bidhya Devi Bhandari (President of Nepal) received Her Excellency Nicola Pollitt (British Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal) and Colonel Paul Smith (Defence Attaché Kathmandu) at her official residence to present the Annual Report.
Normally this would have been carried out by the Colonel Commandant, much earlier in the year. COVID and recent Political turmoil has much delayed this event and we were both surprised and pleased that this was able to take place.
There was no agenda or issue made regarding the current protests. The President and her Staff were full of praise for the Brigade of Gurkhas and she showed great national pride in their achievements. The report was delivered in full and she conveys her warm regards to the Colonel Commandant, whom she looks forward to meeting next year.
This was a very positive engagement in which the good work of our Officers & Soldiers was noted and the strong bonds of friendship confirmed. HMA also had a very positive engagement about climate change and Nepal’s interest in the goals of COP 26 as one of the Nations most affected by global warming.
