On the very auspicious occasion of Bijaya Dashami 2079, I, with my family, wish to send our heartfelt greetings to all members of the Brigade of Gurkhas, both serving and retired, and to all your families and friends. May you all look forward to a very peaceful and successful year ahead and whilst we have seen many challenges in the world in recent times, I hope that you can all find the time, wherever you are in the world, to come together with comrades and loved ones to celebrate the occasion.
That coming together only further strengthens our strong bonds of friendship and reinforces our great respect for each other; and lets each other know we can always count on support when we need it. It is also right that we take this important opportunity to acknowledge and thank our families for their love and commitment to us; we are truly indebted to them. Of course, Dashain and Tihar are deeply religious experiences and a spiritual time but they are also a chance to recognise and celebrate the successes over the last year.
For the Brigade of Gurkhas there have again been many outstanding achievements and all of our six capbadges have continued to showcase their renowned Gurkha capabilities on operations, at major events, and in sporting and military skills. We have delivered new subunits to the Army’s order of battle, offered some exciting new roles for others and even managed, at long last, to complete the move of the two Battalions between Shorncliffe and Brunei. Collectively our officers and soldiers have displayed the highest standards and there have been countless individual and team awards and recognitions. All testament to the great Gurkha traits of teamwork, determination and hard work. A massive well done and genuine thank you to all members of the Brigade; your work by all ranks does not go unnoticed.
On a sadder note, I know we all felt a great loss at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II but it was clearly a proud moment for us all that the Brigade was so well represented at the State funeral. It was a very emotional but amazing occasion that all those supporting or on parade will remember for the rest of their lives. Her Majesty during her long reign recognised the uniqueness, humility and fighting spirit of the Gurkha soldier and thus we must now continue to honour her faith in us by ensuring we maintain and further reinforce our reputation for excellence and dedication to the Crown; both within Defence and across the world.
So wherever you are, on operations or at home, and whether serving or retired, I again wish you all a very Happy Dashain and a prosperous, peaceful and healthy year ahead. We are one Gurkha family and community; proud of our heritage and looking to the future with confidence.

विजयादशमी विक्रम सम्वत २०७९ को पावन अवसरमा म र मेरो परिवार सहित हाल सेवारत तथा अवकाश प्राप्त गोरखा ब्रिगेडका सम्पूर्ण सदस्यहरू अनि तपाईंका सम्पूर्ण परिवार तथा आफन्तजनहरूमा हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना व्यक्त गर्दछु। आसा गरौ आउदा दिनहरु धेरै शान्तिपूर्ण र सफल वर्षको रुपमा देखा पर्ने छन जबकी, अहिले हामीले सन्सार भरी थुप्रै चुनौतीहरु देखेका छौं, म आशा गर्दछु कि तपाईंहरू संसारको जुनसुकै ठाउँमा भए पनि, साथीहरू र आफन्तहरुको साथमा विजयादशमी मनाउन समय पाउनुहुनेछ। यो पर्वले हाम्रो मित्रताको बलियो बन्धनलाई अझ बलियो बनाउँछ र एकअर्काप्रतिको हाम्रो ठूलो सम्मानलाई अझ दरिलो बनाउँदै लैजानेछ। यो पनि हामीले बुझन जरुरि छ कि, हामीले हाम्रो परिवारलाई उनीहरूको माया र उनिहरुले दिएको प्रतिबद्धताको लागि धन्यवाद दिने यो महत्त्वपूर्ण अवसर हो र हामी उहाँहरूप्रति साँच्चै ऋणी पनि छौं। निस्सन्देह, दशैं र तिहार गहिरो धार्मिक अनुभव र आध्यात्मिक समय हो त्यस्का अलाव विगतका वर्षको सफलताहरू पहिचान गर्ने र मनाउने सुनौलो मौका पनि हो।
गोर्खाब्रिगेडको लागि फेरि धेरै उत्कृष्ट उपलब्धिहरू भएका छन् र हाम्रा सबै छ वटा क्यापब्याजहरूले अप्रेशनमा, प्रमुख कार्यक्रमहरूमा, खेलकुद र सैन्य कौशलमा, उनीहरूको प्रसिद्ध र क्षमताहरू अति विषिस्ट रुपमा प्रदर्शन गर्न क्रम जारी राखेका छन्। हामीले सेनाको लडाईको क्रममा नयाँ सबयुनिटहरू डेलिभर गरेका छौं, अरू युनिटका लागि केही रोमाञ्चक नयाँ भूमिकाहरू प्रस्ताव गर्न सफल भएक छौं र लामो समयपछि शोर्नक्लिफ र ब्रुनेई बीचको दुई बटालियनहरूको सरुवा पूरा गर्न पनि सफल भयौ। सामूहिक रूपमा हाम्रा अफिसर र सिपाहीहरूले उच्च स्तरको प्रदर्शन गरेका छन् र त्यहाँ अनगिन्ती व्यक्तिगत र सामुहिक रुपमा पुरश्क्रित भएका छन्। टिमवर्क, दृढता र कडा परिश्रमको महान, गोर्खा विशेषताहरूको यो सवुत प्रमाण हो। ब्रिगेडका सबै सदस्यहरूलाई धेरै धरै धन्यवाद; हजुरहरुको यो होनहर कडा परिष्रमको कहिलै पनि नजर अन्दाज गरिने छैन।
एउटा दुखद नोटमा, मलाई थाहा छ हामी सबैले महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीयको निधनमा ठूलो क्षति महसुस गर्यौं तर राज्यको अन्त्येष्टिमा ब्रिगेडले यति राम्रोसँग प्रतिनिधित्व गरेको छ कि, हामी सबैको लागि यो स्पष्ट रूपमा गर्वको क्षण थियो। यो वास्तवमा धेरै भावनात्मक तर एउ्टा अवसर पनि थियो जुन हाम्रो बाँकी जीवनको लागि सम्झना रहिरहने छ । उहाँको लामो शासनकालमा रानीले गोर्खा सिपाहीको विशिष्टता, विनम्रता र लडाइँको भावनालाई मान्यता दिनुभयो र यसैले अब हामीले क्राउनप्रतिको उत्कृष्टता र समर्पणको लागि हाम्रो प्रतिष्ठालाई कायम राख्न र अझ सुदृढ गर्ने सुनिश्चित गरी उहाँको विश्वासलाई सम्मान गर्ने क्रम जारी राख्नुपर्छ।
तसर्थ तपाई जहाँ भएपनि, अपरेशनमा वा घरमा, र सेवारत वा सेवानिवृत्त, म तपाईहरु सबैलाई फेरि पनि दशैंको धेरै धेरै शुभकामना र आगामी वर्ष समृद्ध, शान्ति र स्वास्थ्यको कामना गर्दछु। हामी एउटै गोर्खा परिवार र समुदाय हौं। हाम्रो सम्पदामा गर्व गरौ र येही आत्मविश्वासका साथ भविष्यमा अझ राम्रो गरौ।
