Specialist Weapons School (SWS) / Gurkha Coy (Tavoleto) Alpine Ski Team took part in the Infantry Alpine Ski Event Exercise FROSTED BLADE 35. The Exercise is the annual Infantry Skiing Competition.
Specialist Weapons School (SWS) / Gurkha Coy (Tavoleto) Alpine Ski Team took part in the Infantry Alpine Ski Event Exercise FROSTED BLADE 35. The Exercise is the annual Infantry Skiing Competition. This year’s competition was held between the period from 9th December 2019 to 9th January 2020 in Val D ’Isère, France.
The team deployed and after reaching the location, all the necessary equipment that was required for the training and competition was issued. According to ability and experience 27 groups were created. Before Christmas leave, three weeks of training was conducted with our group instructor Mrs Olivia, focusing on skills and techniques of skiing. After leave we recommenced training for the competition, so we were ready for the competition which was held between 4th to 9th January 2020.
The events were categorized into five different categories namely Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super G, Downhill and Super-Combined. Among this five events Rifleman Pramesh Gurung won Gold medal in the Giant Slalom, Slalom and Silver in the Downhill in novice category. Our Team leader, Captain Dominic Ward won Bronze medal in Giant Slalom and Gold medal in Super-Combined.
At the end of the event the Army Infantry Alpine committee organized a formal prize giving ceremony in order to motivate and praise the competitors.
