The Second Annual GBA Briefing Day, aimed specifically at the Gurkha community was held at HQBG on Sat 20 Feb. Following on from the success of last year’s event for Regimental Representatives, this year the day was opened up to Community Leaders as well and over 70 people attended, including some from as far away as Leeds, Cardiff and Nuneaton.
President of the GBA, Lieutenant General Sir David Bill, and the new Chairman, Colonel David Hayes, opened the day’s proceedings, welcoming all those who were attending and they were followed by a succession of briefings and updates including a very informative brief from Ms Victoria Paterson, SO1 Community Engagement at 11 Brigade, on the Armed Forces Community Covenant, Mr Mike Roberts from Army Secretariat and of course updates from other 4 Pillars; the GWT (Nigel Rowe, new Chief of Staff and Gary Ghale, Welfare Officer), Museum (Gavin Edgerley Harris, Director) and HQBG (Colonel Robinson, Col BG).
Feedback was that the briefings were most useful and the efforts to communicate more widely to our ex-Gurkhas was much appreciated. Those attending were able to ask questions of the speakers and enhance their understanding of issues, particularly TACOS. Extracts and interviews from the day will be repeated on BFBS Gurkha Radio.
