This year, Gurkha Company Sittang celebrated the 26th anniversary of the formation of The Royal Gurkha Rifles with great zeal in recognition of this unique milestone, ensuring all measures in place to protect against COVID-19.
The event was a huge success in presence of Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas (BG) Colonel Jody Davies MBE RGR and Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas Team, Commanding Officer (CO) Sandhurst Support Unit (SSU) Lieutenant Colonel C Boryer MBE RGR and team, and all RGR serving members within the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) hosted by GC(S).
This year’s RGR anniversary was delivered in a unique way; organised by the HQBG team, combining all RGR personnel across the globe, and Officer Commanding (OC) GC(S) Major Shureshkumar Thapa MVO delivered Birthday message on behalf of GC(S) via virtual platform.
The day started with The Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) birthday messages, RGR history read out by the Second in Command Gurkha Company (Sittang) (GC(S)) Captain Dipakraj Ghale, RGR history presentations by JNCOs, reception of guests and RGR personnel working within the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, cake cutting ceremony and, followed by light curry lunch.
In the evening, GC(S) organised a family virtual event to build family cohesion and sense of belonging, community resilient and an opportunity to bring families together by organising family bingo and an inter Platoon RGR orientated quiz competition. A huge thank you to the Company Sergeant Major GCS, Warrant Officer Class Two Prakash Gauchan to lead the whole event and a very well done to all.
