It was a privilege to be selected for the NATO Winter Instructor Course at the Centre of Excellence in Norway. The four week course is designed to teach and develop personnel within NATO the ability operate in cold weather conditions.
The course provides the specialised knowledge and skills needed to operate efficiently and safely in an extreme winter environment. Students learn how to fight, manoeuvre, and maintain combat effectiveness in extreme cold conditions. As a winter instructor and adviser to their home unit, the students are tested on their understanding of the importance of effective leadership and making decisions based on the mission, terrain, and circumstances, as well as planning the unit’s level of training.
Also on the course were Corporal Paribartan Rai who achieved opt student and Lance Corporal Adarsh Rai who achieved the award of Knight of Broken Ski.
As a qualified NATO winter instructor, I am looking forward to continuing to develop the unit’s mountain warfare capabilities and operating in winter conditions by combining all of my knowledge, skills, and experience.
