Gurkhas take part in a Cyber Warfare Exercise

8th November 2022

Exercise CAMBRIAN HACK – Cyber Warfare Exercise

On the 9th of October 2022, myself along with Private Padam Jung Gurung from the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment attended Exercise CAMBRIAN HACK at the 160th (Welsh) Brigade Headquarters.

This exercise, staged with Exercise CAMBRIAN PATROL 22, was a competition in cyber-warfare, the fifth domain, to assist refine the idea for potential inclusion in future events. This was a whole new experience for me. I grew up in my unit recceing enemies, running section attacks, throwing grenades, and clearing enemy positions in woodblocks, jungles, and houses. It was unlike anything I had ever done before. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire competition, which was displayed on a laptop in front of me. Even though we were a stranger to the cyber world, we were able to finish third in the competition. I now understood how important cyber warfare is for the military and the future battle space to aid and support the British Army on operations around the world.
