Happy Birthday to The Royal Gurkha Rifles

Formed today on the 1st July 1994. The Royal Gurkha Rifles was formed after the amalgamation of four Gurkha Regiments, 2 Gurkha Rifles, 6 Gurkha Rifles, 7 Gurkha Rifles and 10 Gurkha Rifles.

Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas celebrates 27th Birthday of Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) via digital video conference in Sandhurst in which Colonel representative from all the Regiment and the Sub-Unit were present.

The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles Nordi

The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles Nordic Skiing Team have arrived in Idre Fjall, Sweden. Nordic Skiing is renowned as one of the most physically demanding sports in the world, and cross country skiing is the most aerobically demanding Olympic discipline. The team will train and compete in the disciplines of cross country skiing and biathlon, training that transfers to their job as infantry soldiers also. Hitting a target the size of a tub of Vaseline at 50 meters, under extreme fatigue during freezing cold and arduous weather conditions is highly demanding, thus excellent training for soldiers from The Royal Gurkha Rifles. After 11 weeks of gruelling training, this week saw the completion of of the All Arms Commando Course (AACC) 02/21 at Commando Training Centre (CTCRM). Elements of the Brigade of Gurkhas routinely have soldiers and officers attend AACC, however for the first time in over 15 years an Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR) soldier has attended the course. Lance Corporal Biswas Nugo, from A (Amboor) Company 2 RGR based in Brunei, not only completed the course but was awarded Top Student, a rare honour for the Brigade.

The presentation of the coveted Commando beret and award of Top Student was made more special by the presence of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam at the award ceremony.
