Last Night of the Proms concert

21st July 2017
On the evening of the 19th July the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas along with the Band of the Household Cavalry came together in the grounds of the Royal military School of Music, Kneller Hall to perform a Last Night of the proms concert.
One of the featured items was members of the Brigade band performing the Khukuri Dance.  The dance is a combination of patterns of drill, where the dancers demonstrate their skills of handling the Khukuri knife. It is believed, the dance was derived from the occasion of celebration when a soldier returned from war with the glory of victory.

The concert also featured a Sergeant Sunil Gurung from the Brigade Band who is on the Musical Direction course at the Royal Military School of Music before he is eventually assigned back to the band to take over as Assistant Director of Music (Captain) in a few years time.
The concert finale featured: Baba Yaga and the The Great Gate of Kiev from Pictures from an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea-Songs and Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 in D major (Land of Hope and Glory).
