The Gurkha Brigade Association represents all the Regimental Associations of Britain’s Brigade of Gurkhas. Veterans and serving, and all ranks, anyone who has served with the Brigade of Gurkhas is a member. Our role is to foster comradeship and welfare, to preserve the heritage and history of the Brigade of Gurkhas and to sponsor and support Association or Brigade events. We work very closely with Headquarters the Brigade of Gurkhas, the Gurkha Welfare Trust and the Gurkha Museum, for the benefit of our soldiers and ex-servicemen. We provide information on relevant news and events, in UK and abroad, as well as help and advice for those starting a second career outside the Brigade
Whilst little is being made of it, 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the first attempt to climb Mount Everest. As you read this Garth Miller, an RGRRA member, is on an expedition to climb Ama Dablam in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal. This expedition is training for his record-breaking 'lightning ascent' of Mount Everest in May 22.
Garth is attempting to slash the record time from London to the summit of Everest and back, and has created an exciting 'experiential learning' opportunity for schools. This is designed to help the children tackle challenges in their everyday lives through building their resilience, perseverance and determination. It has so far been excitedly received by hundreds of primary-aged students.
Further, Garth hopes that his 'lightning ascent' will cause climbers to re-examine their approach Himalayan mountaineering and so reduce the environmental impact of expeditions in the Solu Khumbu and other areas of Nepal.
