The opening game of the 2015 Nepal cup was a closer affair than the scoreline would suggest with the first half ending without a goal being scored. QG Signals had the wealth of possession but GSPS had matched them evenly for strong goal-scoring chances during a rainy 45 minutes.
The second half started similarly closely but with the rain easing off an opening goal for QGS’ LCpl Bibek Gurung went with the run of play and was soon followed by a stunning free kick from LCpl Brindan Tulachan to put the Signals team two goals up.

GSPS did not give up however and quickly replied in the perfect fashion by tagging on one of their own courtesy of Sgt Diwas Rai to get them back into the match and a game that was already being played at high speed reached a frenetic pace. This was coupled with a yellow card for each side (both for late tackles) as the game intensified.
QGS however closed the game down again with their superior possession with Sgt Bishaws Gurung nailing in a third goal from open play a few minutes before the closing whistle to sink GSPS hopes of and improvement over last year’s tournament.
QGS have now arguably passed their sternest test on the road to the final and now face Gurkha Company Sittang on Monday at 13:30 on the RMAS playing fields, where the Sandhurst boy’s will be hoping to upset the odds on their home field.
