Every year, a team from Nepal Signal Troop (NST) based in British Gurkhas Nepal visits various Area Welfare Centres (AWC) in Nepal and lone AWC in Darjeeling, India, to conduct Exercise PURBHA/PASCHIM SIGNAL KHUKURI 2022.
The team focuses on inspecting and maintenance of High Frequency (HF) contingency communication capabilities. During the exercise, it is also important to conduct refresher voice procedure training to AWCs’ staff members. This provides assurance to Headquarters Gurkha Welfare Trust (Nepal) that during any emergency that their staff can establish communication with them quickly and effectively.
This exercise also presents the opportunity to meet ex-servicemen, widows, dependants of serving personnel and their families, and the local communities where we can share our experiences and hear their stories about their time in the Army.
