Nepal Trek For Gurkhas

17th October 2013

Two Staffordshire based old codgers, retired Major Rob Cross (71), chairman of the North Midlands Branch of the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) and member of QGEA and his wife Margaret (68) have organised and are leading a group of unwitting, trusting friends on a trek through the foothills of the Himalayas in October 2013.

Rob and Margaret, who were lucky enough to have had a 3 year posting to British Gurkhas Nepal, have talked a group of friends into making their first visit to Nepal a fund-raiser for The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The sponsorship money will go towards Welfare pensions for approximately 7,500 retired Gurkhas and their widows in Nepal.

Thus approximately £400,000 is required per MONTH just to pay the pensions.  This excludes the community assistance of schools, bridges, water supply and medical assistance.
