Logisticians from 1 Supply Squadron, 10 The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) paid a visit to Amazon's Fulfilment centre in Tilbury on the 9th of May where they explored the very latest in cutting-edge technology, smart workflows and innovation and how the organisation manages their large supply chain at scale throughout Europe.
Amazon is at the forefront of technology with their supply chain and our Gurkhas were keen to learn from the warehouse staff how they operate to turn thousands of orders around each day through the warehouse. Gurkha logisticians from QOGLR are a key part of the British Army supply chain, making sure the military around the world on Operations and major exercises are fully supported and able to deliver their objectives.
Logistic Supply Specialists work at the heart of the supply chain, they control the distribution of supplies across the world that are needed by the Army on Operations and Exercises. As Supply Specialists, they play a vital role in the logistical support required by the Army. Food, weapons, equipment – the Army needs all kinds of supplies, all the time. Tracking stores, deliveries, and then the distribution of stock, everything needed on operations. They use cutting-edge IT systems, drive HGV’s and forklifts all in a day’s work. But are Soldiers first and able to support in the most inhospitable of places.
