Central Selection of the British Gurkhas Recruit Intake 2021 has commenced in Pokhara, Nepal.
Gurkha recruiting has adapted and overcome numerous challenges through its history. More recently, in 2015 when a major earthquake measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale, and through an earlier Maoist insurgency and civil war. This meant that COVID-19 was certainly not going to stop Recruit Intake 21 from joining the British Army.
The British Gurkhas Nepal team based in Pokhara and supported by staff from Kathmandu, local Ex Gurkhas and Gurkhas flown in from The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles in Brunei have had to make numerous adjustments to the regular selection process to make this year’s selection is safe for both applicants and staff with the threat of COVID-19.
We would like to thank all the recruiting staff and potential recruits who have been following the COVID-19 safety guidelines in place.
Part of the annual selection process is the recruitment for the Gurkha Contingent Singapore Police Force (GCSPF) and this stage for 2021 has now concluded smoothly and the results have been announced. Congratulations to all successful candidates who will now embark on their journey with GCSPF in Singapore.
