The Queen’s Green Canopy – Time to Get Involved

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”

Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.

With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations. As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service. The Queen’s Green Canopy is an inclusive national initiative, meaning that everyone from across the United Kingdom can get involved. Whether you’re an individual hoping to plant a single sapling in your garden, or an organisation or group planting a large tree.

The Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas (HQBG) intent is to inspire units across the Brigade to take the initiative to plant a tree. HQBG will lead the project and plant a tree in the grounds of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in early January 2022, Brigade of Gurkhas units are then invited to follow suit in their locations up to the end of March 2022, capturing the activity through photographs and video and sending to HQBG Communications Officer for publication across our media channels to reach the greatest number of people we can help inform about this fantastic project.

It is hoped our activity will inspire others within the military and civilians to get involved in this wonderful activity inspired by Her Majesty The Queen’s vision. Project lead at Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas is Captain Belbahadur Gurung:

You will be able to track the Brigade activity on this website.
