The Royal Gurkha Rifles Regimental Association Scotland Annual Reunion

24th August 2022

On Saturday the 6th of August the Royal Gurkha Rifles Regimental Association Scotland members gathered once more at Cowdenknowes House in the Borders to celebrate comradeship and the passing of another eventful year. This was made possible by the generous hospitality of the owner, Lady Caroline Dalmeny and her family, with the bandobast organized by her partner, Captain Jules Irens.

Our guests were Major General Gez Strickland DSO MBE and his wife Cathy, who both entered swiftly into the spirit of this happy occasion. This year the activities started later and went on well into the night, with luxurious overnight accommodation kindly provided by our hosts.

Whilst the cooking was again run by Team Aberdeen, this time we had music and song sheets professionally produced by our sole Glaswegian attendee, Major Sudan Dewan. More wives and children came along to make this a true family celebration.

On Sunday morning a sumptuous breakfast was provided followed by a short, brisk walk up nearby Black Hill (203m) which might in future years see some real khud racers in action.

We are only constrained in developing this event if we lack imagination and ambition. Serving and retired members of The Royal Gurkha Rifles are certainly not in that state, judging by the noisy jollity of this year’s festive gathering.
