On 23rd September 2020, Team ‘Sittang Warrior’ completed Virtual Trailwalker relay 2020 led by Rifleman Prabin Tamang.
I was fortunate enough to be a part of this Team and represent Gurkha Company Sittang (GC(S)). The main aim of this event was to raise charity for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. We were able to fundraise £848 as a team.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this event was a relay format over 100km in your local area and must be completed collectively; everyone ran a half-marathon leg and recorded in ‘Strava’ app for the evidence. We were a team of 5 runners and each runner had to complete 20km.
The event started at 0800hrs from Nepal Lines, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Commanding Officer Sandhurst Support Unit Lieutenant Colonel Boryer MBE, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, initiated the Trailwalker relay by lowering the GC(S) flag with great zeal. Sergeant Uttam Pun (1 Platoon Sergeant) led the first leg of run followed by Rifleman Prabin, Private Yuvaraj, Rifleman Rahul and Private Uday respectively. Our group average run time was 1 hour 46 minutes. Commander Sandhurst Group Brigadier James Carr-Smith and the member of GC(S) were lined up at the finish line to cheer up all the participants. I would like to extend our heartful gratitude to Sergeant Tulsi (2 Platoon Sergeant) and all members of GC(S) who helped during the shaping and execution phase of this event and made possible this year’s Trailwalker to raise fund for such a good cause.
A thank you to Officer Commanding GC(S) Major Shureshkumar Thapa MVO and Captain Dipakraj Ghale (Second in Charge) who made a huge effort to ensure we are well resourced, given plenty of time for pre-training phase and given every possible help to make this event successful.
