The 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) are currently on exercise in Australia on Exercise Pacific Kukuri 2017.
We are delighted to be exercising in Australia (AUS). The UK has traditionally enjoyed a close relationship with Australia and these links have been reinforced by shared experiences in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Gurkhas and Australian soldiers have fought together in these and previous conflicts.
We are delighted that AUS is willing to host an infantry company from UK Battalion, First Royal Gurkha Rifles, based in Brunei. The company benefits from being able to utilise AUS Training Areas for the conduct of unilateral training. AUS Army extends support by providing logistic support and range safety support. Exercise Pacific Kukri is an annual event that alternates between Australia and New Zealand.
British Forces Brunei. AUS and UK share common interests in the Asia-Pacific region and the British Garrison in Brunei (home to 1 RGR) is the UK’s largest permanent military presence in Asia Pacific and is a demonstration of UK’s commitment to the region.
