The head of the British Army has paid tribute to the toughness and professionalism of the Gurkhas.

General Sir Patrick Sanders, the Chief of the General Staff, was speaking to BFBS Radio during a visit to Nepal.

General Sir Patrick was in the capital, Kathmandu, where he spoke to members of the Brigade of Gurkhas. He will then attend the Attestation Parade in Pokhara later this week.

The Chief of the General Staff has a family connection with the Brigade of Gurkhas as his father served alongside them in Malaya.
