On 16 January 2026, B Company, The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, conducted an intensive bayonet training exercise coinciding with the visit to the battalion by the Commander of 16 Air Assault Brigade.

The bayonet training was aimed at preparing soldiers both mentally and physically for extreme combat situations, ensuring they are ready to face the challenges of the battlefield. The training was designed not just to teach technique, but to push soldiers out of their comfort zones. It instilled controlled aggression, confidence and the will to engage the enemy under stressful conditions. By repeatedly exposing soldiers to high-pressure scenarios, the training engrained these responses into muscle memory, making decisive action instinctive in combat.

During the session, troops displayed discipline, resilience, and determination, reflecting the core objective of the exercise, which included transforming confidence into action. This training underscores the Regiment’s commitment of combat readiness and operational excellence, ensuring that its soldiers are prepared to meet any threat decisively.
