The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, was honoured to host Brigadier E G R Cartwright CBE (Commander 16 Air Assault Brigade), during his formal visit on 16th January 2026. This visit marked Brigadier Cartwright’s first formal engagement to 1 RGR, following the Battalion’s return from Brunei. The Battalion was proud to formally welcome him in accordance with military tradition, with an Honour Guard, reflecting the high regard in which the Commander is held. During the visit, Brigadier Cartwright was briefed on 1 RGR’s recent activities, operational readiness, and ongoing commitments. The occasion reinforced the strong professional relationship between 1 RGR and 16 Air Assault Brigade.
