Exercise BATTLECAMP – Spring Term 2026 at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
Exercise BATTLECAMP is designed to push Officer Cadets from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst beyond the comfort of the classroom and into the realities of operating in the field. For many, it is their first exposure to working under pressure in challenging environments while maintaining effective command, control, and communication.
I, Signaller Bidhan Kumhal, am currently serving with Seremban Troop at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. During the exercise, I was deployed as a Company Command Post (CP) Operator and Network Engineer, responsible for ensuring that the backbone of tactical communications and control remained uninterrupted throughout the training period. Operating within the G6 (Communications and Information Systems) function, my primary responsibility was to deliver reliable tactical communications across the entire exercise area and maintain a stable network. This included configuring radios, sustaining connectivity, and troubleshooting faults as they arose, enabling Officer Cadets to communicate effectively with their companies and higher headquarters while executing their training objectives.
The exercise spanned 11 demanding days, during which we frequently moved our harbour areas. Each move required the complete dismantling, packing up, relocation, and re-establishment of the CP and communications infrastructure.
I remained on call 24 hours a day to support the cadets with any communication-related issues. Whether resolving radio faults or restoring network connectivity, my role was to ensure that communications remained reliable, allowing the Officer Cadets to focus on developing their leadership, resilience, and decision-making skills in a realistic and demanding training environment.
