The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas recently returned from a memorable tour in Nepal, further strengthening the deep cultural and military ties between the United Kingdom and Nepal. The tour highlighted the Band’s musical excellence while celebrating the enduring friendship between the Gurkhas and the Nepali people. Through a series of performances across the country, the band honoured tradition, welcomed new recruits, and engaged with communities closely connected to Gurkha heritage.

The tour commenced on 30 January at The British School in Lalitpur, where teachers, students and staff gathered to witness the band’s performance of popular Western music led by Captain David Hatton. The performance set an energetic tone for the tour.

A defining moment of the tour took place on 6 February in Pokhara during the Attestation Parade. The band was joined by the Pipes and Drums of the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment and Queen’s Gurkha Signals, delivered a stirring ceremonial display featuring traditional military marches and classic musical pieces.

On 15 February, the band returned to Kathmandu to perform during the national celebrations of Maha Shivaratri, which coincides with the Nepal Army Day. This significant annual event commemorates the Nepal Army’s history, achievements, and service to the nation. The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas delivered a dynamic performance blending traditional military marches with well‑known musical selections. Their contribution added ceremonial grandeur to the festivities, appreciated by military personnel, government officials, and members of the public.

On 17 February, the band performed at an event hosted by the British Embassy Kathmandu. With high ceremonial music and precise military marching, the performance underscored the long‑standing diplomatic relationship between the United Kingdom and Nepal.

A notable highlight of the tour came on 21 February when the Band visited Dharan, a city with deep historical ties to the Gurkhas. The band performed at the popular Dharan Run, bringing motivation and enthusiasm to participants and spectators. They also visited the British Gurkha Welfare Centre Dharan, where they performed classic Nepali folk songs for veterans and members of the local community.
