A ‘momentous occasion’ was marked as Gurkha veterans gathered in Nuneaton. Proud old soldiers were among those who went along to a special service at the borough’s unique Gurkha memorial on the outskirts of Riversley Park.
The event took place on the 21st of April and was organised by the Nuneaton, British Gurkha Veterans Association (BGVA). It was held to held to mark the ninth anniversary of the inauguration of the monument and to commemorate 209 years since Gurkha regiments joined the British Army.
Gurkha veteran Captain (Retd) Bhim Saru and chair of the BGVA said; “It was truly an honour to have all join us in honouring the incredible legacy of the Gurkhas and their unwavering dedication to serving with courage, loyalty, and distinction. We hope all those came to witness the event found the celebration both inspiring and meaningful, filled with moments of reflection and pride. Thanks to everybody for taking the time to join us and for your ongoing support. We look forward to the opportunity to come together again in the future”.
The annual service this year saw Tim Cox, the Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire and Rajvinder Kaur, Warwickshire’s High Sheriff among those who spoke to the assembled crowds.
