
The Royal Gurkha Rifles Secretary – Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Chris Warren OBE
Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Chris Warren was commissioned into The Royal Hampshire Regiment in 1981. He deployed on three operational tours to Northern Ireland in the 1980s and deployed to The Falkland Islands in late 1982. He was seconded to 10th PMO Gurkha Rifles (10GR) in 1990. As Officer Commanding D Company 10 Gurkha Rifles (10 GR), he saw service in Brunei, Hong Kong and Hawaii during the three-year secondment. Following the Army Command and Staff Course he was accepted for transfer to The Royal Gurkha Rifles (RGR)and served with 1 RGR in Church Crookham and 2 RGR in Brunei. He commanded C Company 1 RGR on operational deployment to Kosovo with 5 Airborne Brigade in June 1999. He retired from the Army in 2006 following appointments at the Land Warfare Centre, HQ Land and the MoD.
He visits Kosovo regularly and represents RGR during commemorative celebrations. He is assisting the Institute for Crimes Committed during the Kosovo War and is an Advisory Board Member for the International Governance Conference and Institute of Kosovo, Albania and the Western Balkans.
From 2006 he worked for Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League until 2024, supporting Commonwealth veterans and their widows in 28 countries overseas. He was Finance Director for 8 years and then and CEO for 11 years being awarded the OBE for services to Commonwealth veterans and their widows in 2024.
Having trekked multiple times in Nepal since leaving the Army, he spent three months in country in 2024 visiting Gurkha Welfare Trust projects and staff, the British Embassy, catching up with RGR and 10 GR Associations and friends across the country. He managed to complete 3 more treks and summit Lobouche (6090m) near Everest in May 2024.
