On the 8th of March 2024, 3 Platoon (Tobruk) commenced an engaging Command Task known as the Tyre Tower, under the guidance of our 4-section Commanders. This demanding activity included 40 trainees divided into two groups. The primary objectives were to promote collaboration, solidarity, enhance communication, develop leadership abilities, and emphasize the significance of efficient time management.
Stores and resources available were five tyres, numbered 1 to 5 with white paint and three strong wooden poles. The following rules applied for this task:
- Only one tyre may be moved at a time.
- A tyre may be placed on top of another only if it is a lower number.
- A tyre may move straight from one end to the other end.
- Tyres may be moved in either direction as required.
The Tyre Tower Challenge served as a true test of teamwork and unity for our group. As we encountered various obstacles, the importance of working together became evident. Each team member leaned on the strengths of their peers, contributing to a collective effort to conquer challenges. Through effective collaboration and mutual support, A Team managed to successfully complete the task ahead of B Team. Clear communication played a key role in coordinating actions, minimizing errors, and swiftly resolving issues. Moreover, this challenge presented an opportunity to enhance both verbal and non-verbal communication skills, underscoring the significance of communication in achieving team objectives. This exercise was a chance for trainees to cultivate leadership qualities. The Tyre Tower exercise underscored that leadership entails more than just being in command; it also involves aiding the team in achieving success. We had to make judicious use of resources, prioritize tasks, and execute actions in a timely manner.
The trainees of 3 (Tobruk) Platoon found this experience to be highly beneficial. We dedicated ourselves both physically and mentally, collaborating to conquer various challenges. The knowledge gained from this endeavor will stay with us, aiding our personal and professional development in the future.
