The King's Gurkha Artillery

The King’s Gurkha Artillery will deliver close support artillery batteries as part of the Royal Artillery and it will offer fresh opportunities to the soldiers of the Brigade of Gurkhas, adding even greater depth and diversity to the Royal Artillery.

It is a fitting blend of two historic, proud organisations that will offer the British Army ever-greater fighting power and combat effectiveness.

The formation of the 400-strong King’s Gurkha Artillery will be completed over the next four years, with the first transfers of existing Gurkhas taking place this spring.

The new unit has initially formed up in Larkhill, at the home of the Royal Artillery. The King’s Gurkha Artillery will grow to form further batteries over the next 3-4 years.

His Majesty King Charles III has formally conferred the title “The King’s Gurkha Artillery” upon the unit within the Brigade of Gurkhas. This prestigious honour marks a proud milestone for all those now serving with The King’s Gurkha Artillery and those who will serve in the future with the unit.

Now recognised as the seventh cap badge within the Brigade of Gurkhas, The King’s Gurkha Artillery represents a vital component of The Royal Artillery’s evolving operational capability. Once fully trained, Gurkha Gunners will play an integral role in exercises and operations both in the United Kingdom and abroad, contributing to the wider mission of the British Army.
