On 26 September 2025, General Sir Roland Walker KCB DSO ADC (Chief of the General Staff (CGS)), visited British Forces Brunei (BFB), marking a historic return after a significant interval.
The visit began with a General Salute and Guard of Honour, presented by C (Tamandu) Company at the Tuker Lines Guard Room, showcasing the high standards of professionalism and ceremonial excellence upheld by The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2RGR).


CGS proceeded to the Memorial Wall, where he laid a wreath in honour of fallen war heroes, paying solemn tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. He later visited a local BFB temple taking part in spiritual service with Pandit Ji, reflecting the deep cultural and religious connection of the Gurkha Kaida and community.
In the afternoon, CGS deployed into the jungle training area where he observed a dynamic camp attack and jungle survival demonstration as part of Exercise JUNGLE GURUJI. This exercise highlighted the primary role of The Royal Gurkha Rifles, who are a light infantry battalion, in conducting operations in dense and challenging terrain of close country tropical environment.


CGS took time to directly engage with the soldiers and discuss the personal and professional life experience that comes with living in Brunei. CGS mentioned the vital role and importance of jungle warfare training, addressing on-going wars, conflicts and emerging threats posed by unmanned aerial vehicles on the modern battlefield.
CGS visit and his genuine messages left a strong positive impression on the troops, reinforcing morale and unity. His leadership style, focused on empathy and understanding, along with his emphasis on family support, which resonated deeply.
