Welcome 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron

On 1 April 2025, personnel and guests gathered at Swinton Barracks, Perham Down, for the naming parade for 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron.

This parade saw the formation of the 7th Field Squadron in the Queen’s Gurkha Signals, and a proud day for 15 Signal Regiment as 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron grows from the success of 220 Signal Squadron, to become another Gurkha unit in the Brigade of Gurkhas. 243 Gurkha Signal Squadron will continue to support Exercises and Operations around the world as part of the Royal Corps of Signals, British Army.

The renamed Squadron will recognise the rich history of the previous Squadrons. Firstly, 243 Squadron, with Sikamat Troop, the name of the camp where the first Queen’s Gurkha Signals cap badge ceremony took place on 23 September 1954 in Seremban in Malaysia.

Secondly it will recognise 220 Signal Squadron, with Alamein Troop, reflecting the role played by the Squadron at El Alamein, North Africa, during World War Two.
