Captain Tarjan Gurung - King’s Gurkha Orderly Officer
Captain Tarjan Gurung enlisted into the Brigade of Gurkhas on 24th of January 1998. He is a second-generation Gurkha, growing up in India and aspired by his father, who had served 28+ years in the Indian Gurkha Regiment (4/4 Gurkha Rifles). On completion of the nine months Infantry Basic Training course at Church Crookham, he joined C Company, The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) in UK.
He was commissioned as a Late Entry (LE) Captain on the 1st of April 2019 and completed three years as a Platoon Commander in Gurkha Company Sittang. This was followed by the first Gurkha LE Officer assigned as an Assistant Chief Instructor (ACI(P)) Intermediate Term within New College at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). He had the privilege to showcase the Gurkha excellence and share the core values of Gurkha ‘Kaida’ to ‘Serve to Lead’ with the other British counterparts and most importantly to our young Officers Cadets who will embody those Values and Standards and serve into the British Army. His previous appointments in 1 RGR included Training Warrant Officer, Air Operations Senior Non-Commissioned Officer and Operations Warrant Officer within Battalion Headquarters.
Captain Tarjan has completed five operational tours, Kosovo, Bosnia and three tours of Afghanistan. He has completed eight overseas exercises that include the Falkland Islands, Australia, Oman, Canada Kenya four times.
For his unwavering commitment, professionalism, and outstanding contribution to the RMAS and to the British Army, he was recently awarded with a Home Command (3*) commendation and a Commandant Sandhurst (2*) commendation. He also feels very honoured to have received his Long Service and Good Conduct Clasp on completion of his 25 years service in the British Army.
