Corporal Ashish Sunuwar from Queen’s Gurkha Signals was part of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Short Term Training Team (STTT), that visited Nepal earlier this year. The aim was to deliver basic CBRN training to the Nepali Army CBRN unit to establish future CBRN capabilities.

During the first week, the CBRN team was welcomed by the UK Defence Attaché (Colonel Paul Smith) and the Assistance Military Attaché (Major Dhir Pun) at the British Embassy Nepal. The CBRN team engaged in a meeting with the foreign training branch, the Directorate of Military Training (DGMT) at Nepal Army HQ, discussing the gradual establishment of a CBRN unit in Nepal. The team visited the Nepal Army TIA EOD unit location to inspect training facilities and discuss Training Objectives with the EOD unit.

In the second and third week, the CBRN STTT successfully delivered the Basic CBRN Awareness course to the Nepal Army EOD Unit, covering both theoretical and practical lessons. 50 Nepali Army personnel received training over the two-week period.

This STTT marked the beginning of an annual deployment planned until the Nepali Army CBRN unit is fully established, anticipated within the next 3-4 years.
