Colonel Dan Rex MVO, Commander (British Gurkhas Nepal) visited the Area Welfare Centres (AWCs) in Dharan, Tehrathum, Phidim, Taplejung and Damak in September 2024, in his capacity as the Director Gurkha Welfare Trust (Nepal), GWT(N).
Putting his trip into words, Colonel Dan said, “One of the greatest pleasures of my job is meeting old Gurkha veterans and their dependents. Lance Corporal Bom Prasad Limbu who is 103 joined 10th Princess Mary’s Own Gurkha Rifles in 1940 and fought through Burma. He later transferred to the Queen’s Gurkha Signals before retiring in 1957. Sanji Maya Limbu was married to a Gurkha who also served during the war. Both Bom and Sanji are being supported by the wonderful The Gurkha Welfare Trust.”
