Gurkha Themed Army Dinner Night at RAF St Mawgan
RAF St Mawgan, a tri‑service station, upheld its long‑standing tradition of hosting the annual Tri‑Service Dinner Night, an event rotated between the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. This year, the British Army took the lead, with the evening expertly organised by Colour Sergeant Naresh Rai (The Royal Gurkha Rifles), currently serving with the Defence Survive, Evade, Resist, Extract Training Organisation.
The 2026 dinner night proudly embraced a Gurkha theme, enriching unity and cultural understanding across the station. The programme celebrated the history, heritage and enduring contribution of the Gurkhas within the British Army, offering personnel from all three Services an authentic insight into Nepalese culture. Traditional Nepali décor, cultural displays and folk music transformed the dining hall into a warm and vibrant setting.

Guests were honoured by the presence of Corporal (Retd) Hari Budha Magar MBE and Warrant Officer Class One Dhaniram Rai MBE, whose inspiring speeches reflected on their personal journeys, military service and remarkable achievements. Their words underscored the resilience, courage, discipline and teamwork that define the Gurkha ethos.
Cultural and military exhibits showcased Gurkha history, The Queen’s Truncheon, Victoria Cross recipients, the iconic Khukuri, and other regimental artefacts. A demonstration of the Doko race offered attendees a deeper appreciation of the physical demands faced by Gurkha recruits during selection in Nepal.
The evening concluded with traditional Nepali cuisine and drinks prepared by Gurkha chefs, followed by captivating performances from a Gurkha Khukuri Combat Display Team, pipers, and both Nepali and English musical ensembles.
