Captain Ollie Masterson R SIGNALS – Adjutant, Brigade of Gurkhas

Captain Masterson was born and educated in the United Arab Emirates. He then worked as a technician in a theatre and a visual effects specialist in the film Industry, relocating to the United Kingdom in 2016.

After a brief stint in the Army Reserves, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2019 and was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals at the age of 22. Coronavirus struck early during his Troop Commanders’ Course, and he consequently took command of a platoon of Phase II Queen’s Gurkha Signals soldiers at high readiness to deploy on Operation RESCRIPT for three months. Once stood down, he completed his course and was assigned to 248 Gurkha Signal Squadron, 22nd Signal Regiment. At Regimental Duty he deployed his troop on numerous exercises up to the 3* level in the UK and overseas, directly responsible for the G6 provision to the deployed ARRC Forward Headquarters. Notably he also completed both the Survival Nepali Language Course and Exercise LANYARD TROPHY in 2021 and led his regiment to victory in the Corps Swim Championships in 2022.

From June 2022 he was assigned to 1 (Fowler) Squadron, 2nd Army Training Regiment, Army Training Centre (Pirbright) as Mather Troop Commander. Here he delivered Basic Training for 34+ recruits. Following promotion to Captain, he was selected to initially cover Squadron Second-in-Command and later Regimental Adjutant until moving on assignment. In 2023 he was hugely privileged to be selected as Adjutant Brigade of Gurkhas, assuming the role in September.

Passionate for adventurous training, Captain Masterson has completed a myriad of courses with a particular love for Mountaineering.
