The introductory Nepali Culture and Language Package (INCLP) was successfully delivered to locally employed civilians across the Brunei Garrison over the period 27 to 29 October 25. The initiative aimed to enhance cultural awareness, mutual understanding, and professional cohesion between the Gurkhas and the local Bruneian workforce, who play an integral role in the operational effectiveness of the Garrison.
The INCLP highlighted the Gurkha’s remarkable contribution during Borneo Confrontation and the Revolt in Brunei during 1962.
The INCLP included lessons on Nepali grammar, conversational practice, as well as cultural interactions with Nepalese families and visits to the temple. Students had the privilege of receiving a detailed briefing on the history and ethos of The Royal Gurkha Rifles from the Gurkha major, Major Dillikumar Rai MVO. A key highlight was the hearing about the Gurkha selection process in Neal, delivered by Signaller Manish Rai (Brunei Signal Troop).
The three days package concluded with a hands-on “Gurkha Messing” lesson, where all the students learned to prepare a traditional Gurkha curry an enjoyable and symbolic way to celebrate cultural exchange and friendship.
