From 2 February to 18 March 2026, the silence of Penanjong Camp was replaced by the sound of grit, determination, and unwavering resolve. For the 34 soldiers of Intake 23, the Junior Leadership Cadre 26 course was far more than a training package. It was a defining test of character, a period of breaking records and building bonds.

We began the cadre with momentum, setting a record of 13 minutes and 41 seconds on the two-mile run, with 99% of the intake achieving “highly competent” results. Through sleepless nights and shared exhaustion, our individual identities gave way to a collective purpose. We learned that leadership is not simply about issuing orders, it is rooted in trust.

The true test arrived on 25 February. Under gruelling conditions and weighed down by our operational equipment, the pace intensified. Every hasty attack and tactical action pushed us to the edge of our mental and physical limits. In the heat of the moment, we discovered the essence of junior leadership, remaining calm, decisive, and confident when everything around you feel uncertain. Our journey reached its peak during the final, high-stakes field exercise. Stepping into junior command appointments, we were entrusted with leading of our platoons through realistic and complex scenarios. It was here that we demonstrated our ability to shoulder responsibility, make sound decisions, and lead from the front.

By the time we marched out of Penanjong Camp, we were no longer just students. We emerged as a disciplined and resilient cohort, ready to lead, ready to serve, and fully aware of what it takes to get the job done.
