Enjoy an exclusive screening of The Last Burma Star, followed by a panel discussion with historian Dr Robert Lyman, and film creators Levison Wood & Alex Bescoby. Taking place at Imjin Barracks Officers’ Mess, Gloucester, GL3 1HG, home of The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers.
A moving documentary from Sky HISTORY following veteran explorer and Gurkha Welfare Trust Ambassador, Levison Wood, and historian Alex Bescoby, as they seek out the last surviving veterans of the Burma campaign. Their journey takes them to the border with Myanmar in search of one particular survivor, a veteran from Burma who has never received proper recognition for his service, to deliver his long overdue campaign medal, the Burma Star. With personal testimonies, archival footage and expert analysis, the film examines the experiences of those soldiers from the region who served alongside British and Commonwealth forces against the Japanese during the Second World War.
Following the screening, Rob Lyman will lead an engaging discussion reflecting on the shared experience of the British, Indian and Burmese troops during the Burma campaign. Notably, the Gurkhas were one of the most significant Commonwealth forces present, and played a crucial role in reversing the Japanese advance into India.
