On 18 June 2026, the newly retrofitted Area Welfare Centre (AWC) Bagmati in Kathmandu was formally opened by His Majesty’s Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Mr Rob Fenn.
The occasion paid tribute to the remarkable generosity of Leonard and Gladys Bramall, whose enduring support to the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) has transformed the lives of Gurkha veterans, their families, and communities across Nepal. Their contribution has created a legacy of care that will continue to benefit generations to come.

The upgraded AWC Bagmati now stands as a testament to that legacy and will deliver essential welfare services with dignity, compassion, and professionalism. Through this centre, the Bramalls’ vision is carried forward each day as the GWT remains steadfast in its mission to provide high quality support to those who have served.
A legacy honoured. A commitment sustained.
