His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei 79th Birthday celebrations
Personnel from The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles (2 RGR), alongside members of British Forces Brunei, joined local residents at the Municipal Field in Kuala Belait to mark the 79th birthday of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. His Majesty was crowned as the 29th Sultan on 1st August 1968.
The gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to honour His Majesty’s enduring leadership and to strengthen the bonds between British Forces Brunei and the local community. For 2 RGR, who have recently returned to Brunei from the United Kingdom after three years this was their first ceremonial engagement in Brunei, a moment of celebration, reconnection, and shared respect.
2 RGR are now the resident British Army infantry battalion in Brunei and will remain in country for the next three years, supporting Military Operations and Exercises in that part of the world as part of wider British Military and International military activities.
