Mount Kenya Charity Ascent to Support The Gurkha Museum, Project Kaida The redevelopment of The Gurkha Museum.
Planned and executed by Colour Sergeant Santosh Rai of The Second Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles Intelligence Cell, while serving as a Temporary Duty Staff member with the British Army Training Unit Kenya, the expedition aimed to raise vital funds in support of The Gurkha Museum’s redevelopment project.
The aim was to raise funds for Project Kaida, The redevelopment of The Gurkha Museum. Project Kaida is more than refitting a military museum: this redevelopment project will provide the opportunity to celebrate a unique and enduring cultural and historical legacy, and a military ethos respected across the world. The project will deliver a world-class visitor experience to the widest audience, both virtual and physical, by celebrating and explaining the contributions of Gurkhas to the United Kingdom, and to global peace and security.

From 28 to 30 November 2025, Colour Sergeant Santosh Rai led a determined team on a challenging ascent of Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest peak. The climb demanded resilience, teamwork, and meticulous preparation that reflect the ethos of the Gurkha soldier. Despite difficult terrain and demanding altitude, the mission was completed successfully and safely.
A total of £1176 was raised towards supporting Project Kaida.
